Stupidity
The first step toward stupidity is thinking you know it all. It is at this time that you are officially giving everyone in the fitness industry a bad name. No one knows knows everything and should ever think they do. You might be great at training clients but that doesn't mean you know everything about marketing. You can be great at marketing and have no idea how to motivate clients towards a new goal once they reach their 1st goal. Maybe you bring home a big paycheck and everyone around you thinks you're awesome. It doesn't matter. YOU DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING! Get over yourself. You are doing harm to other trainers out there who want to validate our industry and bring some respect to fitness. If the general public is inundated with the perspective that personal trainers are egotistical know it alls then we perpetuate the stereotype of vanity over substance which runs rampant in our industry. We need more fitness professionals out there to be professional. Seek more knowledge. Always. Always. Always. Knowledge gives us the ability to truly become professional and take our industry to where it should be. We are more important than doctors. We are more important than psychologists. We are the most important things in people's lives. We are health and wellness. We are the prevention of disease. We are the prevention of obesity. We are a decrease in health care costs. We are an increase in mood. We as fitness professionals can help our country fight Coronary Artery Disease, obesity, joint issues, other health related issues. But first we as fitness professionals need some respectability and that starts with knowledge and a change in most of our belief that we already know it all. Keep trying to learn more and we can start toward more respect as fitness professionals.
