The Old Boring Gym Workout

Most people hate monotony. Some people are strange and live for the same thing over and over again. I'm not talking to those people today. Today I want to talk to the people who hate doing the same thing over and over and as a result, maintaining a workout program becomes tougher and tougher. When was it ever decided that doing the same thing made sense? It is this thinking that leads to stagnation and plateaus. We as trainer must do all we can to avoid stagnation in a workout program. We must do everything we can to keep the body guessing. Some trainers like to portray this concept as "muscle confusion." Well that is only half the story. The key is not muscle confusion- the act of confusing the muscle to improvement by continually doing different routines. - but rather is muscle activation. Activating muscles in different ways allows the muscle to be surprised and still worked hard. Turning on your muscles everyday leads to increased strength, conditioning, power, toning, etc, etc. This also allows for a variety of training protocols and programs. It is this philosophy that will help to end the monotony of the boring old routine
